Description
* We meet at Freedom Rainbow Beach at 7am the morning of the tour for a face to face briefing about our next few days on Fraser Island. We go over safety and emergency situations, as well as what to expect while you’re on the island. *
Day 1: Depart Rainbow Beach, Lake McKenzie**
We begin with a quick morning briefing at Freedom Rainbow Beach. At around 7am, once the briefing is over, we set out for Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island!
Once we land on Fraser Island we do a quick 4×4 induction on the beach so you can get used to both the vehicles and what it’s like to drive on the island. We then speed along 75 mile beach towards Eurong Resort for morning tea. From here we head to the famous Lake McKenzie, known for it’s incredibly pure crystal clear waters surrounded by pure white sand.
After spending some time cooling off with a swim or working on a tan we depart for Central Station for lunch. After lunch you’ll have some time to explore Central Station, a place rich with history enshrouded by a lush forest that’s home to the rare Giant Fern which can only be found in a few places around the world.
After lunch we head to our permanent campsite, just minutes from the beach. Here we’ll have an awesome BBQ dinner as well as some time to relax before we turn in for the night.
Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: Eli Creek, Maheno Shipwreck, Indian Head
We wake up in the morning and set off for Eli Creek which is said to have some of the purest water in the world, taking over 100 years to filter through the sand. Here you can swim or float down the swiftly floating water before we depart for our next location the Maheno Shipwreck.
At the Shipwreck you can explore the SS Maheno one of the world’s first turbine-driven steam boats which crashed on Fraser in a cyclone over 80 years ago in 1935.
We then set out to Indian Head, the highest point on Fraser Island, for some stunning panoramic ocean views. Through July to October, this is a great place to see whales, dolphins and more!
Then, if conditions are good, we’ll have the opportunity to head over to Champagne Pools. At the pools you can relax by the ocean in a natural jacuzzi caused by waves crashing over the volcanic rock that the pools are made of. We then travel back in the afternoon for dinner and drinks.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
* Day 3: Lake Wabby, Return to Rainbow Beach*
This morning we’ll be heading to Lake Wabby, a lake surrounded by natural bushland full of unique Australian wildlife that’s said to disappear and be engulfed by sand in the next 100 years. Lake Wabby is also Fraser Islands deepest lake, here you can relax and go for a swim or just explore Lake Wabby’s surrounding natural environment while you think about the amazing time you had.
After lunch, don’t be sad, but after checking out the sand dunes it’s time to check out of Fraser. We say our goodbyes to Fraser Island and leave Lake Wabby behind as we begin our drive down to the beach and back to the barge for boarding.
